I wrote this song as, over the last few years, I found the America I thought I knew from growing up in the 80’s and 90’s to be increasingly unrecognizable to me. What part do I have to play in this? Have I just been blind or ungrateful? Has it always been this way? Is there a way to heal this polarization? Will my children ever know an America like the one I (thought I) grew up in?
